Room 101 Homework

Kindergartners should read with you each day.  There are two types of reading that should occur.

1. Read books that your child is interested in but are too advanced for them to read on their own.  This type of reading will advance your child's comprehension skills.  In kindergarten typical students' comprehension level exceeds their reading level.  We want to continue to grow their comprehension. Reading books of interest beyond their reading level will encourage this growth.  (By allowing students to pick out the words they know in these advanced books, their reading level will grow as well.)

2. Kindergartners should also be reading to you, daily. As they master the little, white, consumable books they are instructed to read them to family members when they get home. In addition, after fall conferences students will be able to borrow from our classroom "take-home library." Please ask your child questions about what they are reading, throughout any book. This will help with his/her comprehension.

Happy reading!

Periodically, additional homework will be assigned.  Please check your child's Take Home Folder daily for additional homework, news and information.
