Kindergartners should read with you each day. There are two types of reading that should occur.
1. Read books that your child is interested in but are too advanced for them to read on their own. This type of reading will advance your child's comprehension skills. In kindergarten typical students' comprehension level exceeds their reading level. We want to continue to grow their comprehension. Reading books of interest beyond their reading level will encourage this growth. (By allowing students to pick out the words they know in these advanced books, their reading level will grow as well.)
2. Have fun at the library! There is a whole world of subjects to read about. Let your child explore and get caught in the joy of learning.
Periodically, additional homework will be assigned. Please check your child's Take Home Folder daily for additional homework, news and information.
