Welcome to 2nd Grade!

Hello! My name is Kristen Jacobs-Andresen and I teach second grade at Lyndale. The students call me Mrs. J.-A. because of my lengthy name.

I have taught all grades, 1st through 8th, in the 26 years I have been teaching at Lyndale Community School. I have a masters degree in Special Education, with an emphasis in Learning Disabilities. I love seeing students advance in academic areas as well as seeing them bloom socially. Children gain confidence not by praise, but by "doing" - accomplishing goals, big or small. My personal goal is to help children develop a love for learning and a desire to look forward to being at school each day!

Using a variety of techniques so that all learners are reached is extremely important. We don't all learn the same way. Making the classroom interesting, but still maintaining routine, is also paramount for success. Parental involvement at home makes a huge difference. Having your child read is probably the most important thing a parent can do in my opinion.

Second graders express themselves as they hypothesize during science, create skits or other booktalk activities to perform for the class. Even their printing and cursive writing becomes their own unique mark!

Please feel free to contact me at either (612) 668-4000 or at kristen.jacobs-andresen@mpls.k12.mn.us. If you need to contact me during the day the best time is from 10:40 to 11:25.
