Each day we will learn one new word by sight.  I don’t expect your child to memorize the spelling, but I will be looking for them to say it on sight.

Next week our new words will be:

nine

went

ten

party

eight

  New Sound:

“be” as in before

“re” as in report

“ful” as in fulfill

 “sub” as in subtract

“fri” as in Friday

Language Arts:

We will be reading classroom level readers.   We’re reading  “The Farmers”, “Orson’s Tummy Ache”, “Up in a Tree” “Too Many Teeth”, and book #32 “Party of Ten” (teacher created curriculum) during Readers workshop.  Please review vocabulary words and letter sounds with your child.  These are the skills that help them become successful readers!

Please have your child read the book to you daily.

We are continuing to read our 1st chapter book, “Charlotte’s Web”.  We will watch the movie after we read the book.  Then we will make comparisons between the movie and the book.

Math:    We are working with whole number operations.  Making sense of and developing strategies to solve addition and subtraction problems with small numbers.

Core Knowledge:

We are learning about the continent of Africa.  We’ll learn about the Nile River and the Sahara Desert.   You’re child will be able to talk about the wild animals that live in Africa and where the continent is located on the map too.

Reminders: Your kindergartner needs tennis shoes on Thursdays and Fridays for P.E.  Please dress your child for the weather.  We are outside every day.  Thanks!
