Dear Lyndale Families,
Happy New Year! I am thrilled that it is 2021 and happy to see 2020 behind us. I am hopeful that this year brings more good news and a return to life as we knew it. We have been impressed the last few days at the amount of students online and engaged in learning. Keep up the good work and attendance!
Governor’s Executive Order: On December 16th,Governor Walz announced a new executive order prioritizing elementary students returning to in person class in mid-January. Superintendent Graff sent an email to families on December 18th stating that the district needed some time to get more answers from the state and the district would potentially publish a timeline this week. You can read a copy of Superintendent Graff’s family update on this link. The district has committed that the earliest elementary students would come back would be February 1st. Once I receive updates from the district, I will communicate this to families as soon as possible.
Student Instructional Materials: If you missed material pickup before break, you are welcome to come to the school between 8am-4pm any day to pick the items up. If you are unable to come to the school, please contact us at 612-668-4000 and we can arrange for delivery.
Open House Events: Most Minneapolis Public Schools are hosting virtual open house events this month. To see a list of the dates and times, click here. We have held three open house events so far and they have all been fantastic. It has been recommended that most schools list the Zoom or Google Meet link on their website about fifteen minutes before their event. You can also email the principal or assistant principal directly for the link.
Barton Open House Events: Incoming families will receive an email with the direct links.

School Request open till February 7th: Each family should have received communication about your child’s school assignment for next year. Due to the Comprehensive District Design, the boundaries for Lyndale have changed. This means some students will stay at Lyndale based on their home address, and some students may be assigned to Barton, Burroughs, Bancroft, or another Minneapolis school. If Lyndale is not your assigned school next year, you may choose to open enroll your child. Open enrollment is based on the space in the building, and not all families who open enroll will get in. In addition, you will not be provided transportation. To open enroll, you will need to complete the school request process on this link. We want each and every Lyndale student to stay at our school next year, but we understand this may not work for every family. If you really want your child to attend Lyndale next year and can provide transportation, I recommend putting Lyndale as your first choice and then their assigned school or a magnet school as your second, being aware that you may not get your first choice.
