Letter from the Principal, Jun 7
Dear Lyndale Families,
I cannot believe that this is the last week of school. It truly feels like yesterday that I was writing my first weekly letter to families from our computer lab due to the construction project. It has been a year that none of us will ever forget. Your children have persevered through a lot. They have learned how to participate in school through a computer, they have shown adaptability and flexibility as some had up to three different teachers this year, and most importantly they have learned skills that will last them a lifetime. We have been privileged to teach your children this year. Thank you for trusting us with them!
A huge shout out goes to our amazing staff: teachers, educational support staff, office staff, health office, and engineers. The staff have had one of the most challenging years of their careers, and have done so with grace. They all deserve some much needed time off.
Lastly, thank you for being so welcoming to me as a new principal this year. The Lyndale Community is fantastic, and I feel very fortunate to be here. I know many families are going off to other schools next year, whether they have a rising 6th graders, or due to new boundaries from the CDD. I wish each of you only the best, and please keep in touch.
Yearbook: The 2020-21 Lyndale yearbook is here and will be heading home this week. If your child is in Distance Learning, you are welcome to come to the school any day between 9-2:30 to pick-up their yearbook. Huge thank you to Mr. Sandkamp for putting it together for us!
5th Grade Recognition: The weather on Thursday is going to be hot. We plan to have the celebration right outside of Door 1 (main office door). This area provides the most shade. We will also have some tents up for the areas that are in the sun. Due to the weather, we are going to try and make the recognition ceremony a little faster and a little less formal. We ask that no more than 2 family members attend. There will be a short reception after the ceremony.
10am: Ms. Latterell & Ms. Hutchinson
1pm: Ms. McKeegan & Ms. Hutchinson
The event will be streamed via Google meet. Please check your school messenger email to find information on how to join the Google Meet. Call the school at 612-668-4000 with any questions.
*If you are coming to school on Thursday to pick-up or drop off your child between 10:00-10:30am and 1:00-1:30pm, we ask that you use Door 5 off the playground. Mr. John will be able to answer the door. This way the recognition ceremony is not interrupted.
Student Devices: Students who are continuing with Minneapolis Public Schools will bring their iPad or Chromebook home for the summer. This will allow students who are attending Summer School access to the technology. If your child will not be attending a Minneapolis Public School next year, please return their device to the school.
Summer School: Minneapolis Public Schools has excellent opportunities for summer academic and enrichment programming. To learn more, click on this link: SUMMER SCHOLARS. We have hard copies of summer school forms in the main office. If you need assistance with summer school, please contact John Alverson or Dara Anderson at 612-668-4000.
Upcoming Calendar Dates:
- Fifth Grade Recognition: June 10th: 10am (Latterell & Hutchinson) 1pm (McKeegan & Hutchinson)
- Last day of School : June 11th
As always, we are grateful to be partners in your child’s education. If you have any questions, please feel free to call or email. Have a wonderful summer!
