Letter from the Principal, August 16
Dear Lyndale Community,
Welcome to the 2021-22 school year! We are excited to have so many new Eagles (our school mascot!) join our community this year. We have a lot of Eagles coming back this year, and we are excited to see them as well. This letter contains important information on how to prepare your child for school. I plan on sending out a letter every Tuesday evening with important information, dates, etc.
A little about me. This is my 2nd year at Lyndale and as the principal here. Before coming to Lyndale, I was the Assistant Principal of Seward Montessori, MPS Instructional Coach, and for several years I was a 4th and 5th teacher. Students call me Meghan or Ms. Meghan, whichever your family prefers.
Open House: Thursday, September 2nd from 4:00-5:30pm (More information coming next week)
First day of school for grades 1-5: September 8th
First day of school for Three School, High Five, and Kindergarten: September 10th
School Day Hours: Our school hours are 8:25am-2:55pm. The building will be open to students starting at 8:15am. If you arrive before 8:15am, please wait with your child outside until staff opens the doors.
Transportation: Families should receive information on your student’s bus stop, pick-up/ drop-off times in mid- August via email and robocall. If you have any questions about transportation you can call us at school at 612-668-4000 or transportation at 612-668-2300.
Arrival: Students who walk, ride their bikes, or get dropped off can enter through the main office doors (on 34th street) and Door 5 (off the playground). Students who take the bus will enter through doors 2 and 3 (on Grand Avenue)
Walk- Up Families Three School through 3rd Grade: Families will be provided a paper with their child’s name and classroom at the open house. We ask that families bring this with them for pickup. Students will be in the gym at dismissal. Our gym doors are on the east side of the building, facing the playground. It is easiest for parents to approach from 34th Street. We ask that parents form lines by your child’s grade outside the gym. If you have multiple children, we ask that you pick up the youngest child first.
Walk- up Families: 3rd through 5th Grade: Students will be outside of the main office doors with their classroom teachers. Teachers will be in the same spot daily (signs are posted). Parents are welcome to walk up and get their child.
Drive- up Families: All Students (Three School- 5th): Please pull on the North side of 34th street, wait in your car (this is the same side as the school), and have your child’s name sheet(s) on the dashboard. Lyndale staff will approach your vehicle and bring your child(ren) to you. Please wait in your car during this time.
Change in pickup: If you child needs an alternate arrangement to go home (i.e. not taking the bus), please send a note to the school with your child or email firstname.lastname@example.org
Health and Safety: All students, staff, and visitors are required to wear masks while inside the school building. Families should provide their children with masks, and we recommend keeping 2-3 extra masks in your child’s backpack. We ask that every family complete a self health screening of their children before sending their child to school. If your child is experiencing any symptoms of illness, please keep them home. Please call the Lyndale Attendance Line at 668-4007 daily to report the illness
Devices: All MPS students will be provided a device for school use (iPad or Chromebook). Students will bring the device to and from school with them daily.
Office Staff: If you have any questions, please feel free to call us or email us.

Lastly, I know there are lots of concerns regarding Covid-19 and the safety of our students and staff. As the district updates our safety protocols, I will send information out as it pertains to Lyndale. As a school community, we learned a lot last year regarding how to do school differently due to a pandemic. We are continuing to use many of these protocols again this fall to ensure the safety of our students and staff.
We are partners in your child’s education. Please reach out to me with any questions.
