Lyndale Student & Family Support
Dear Lyndale Community,
It is difficult for me to find the words to express the tragedy that took place yesterday at Robb Elementary School in Ulvade, Texas. As educators, we are left speechless, numb, and filled with grief. The frequency of mass shootings in our country is becoming too common, and our caregivers should feel confident that they are sending their children to school in a safe environment.
As caregivers, I would encourage you to talk to your child about the event in whatever way you feel is appropriate. I know these conversations are not easy, but our children are listening more than we realize with the media and their friends. Below are some resources you may find helpful.
Our mental health team at Lyndale (School Psychologist, Social Worker, Watercourse Counselor and Social Emotional Lead Teacher) are preparing resources for our staff. We are asking staff to hold space for their students to process through what they may be thinking and feeling, ensuring that it is age-appropriate and reassures that they feel safe at school. The mental health team is also available to support any student who needs additional time and space. If you have immediate concerns, please contact Sara Stenger, our social worker at 612-668-4015 (office) or via text at 612-314-6387.
Lyndale has a Site Emergency Team, that consists of office and mental health staff to ensure the safety and security of our building. Our team will be meeting to process and plan any areas we can improve upon at Lyndale. As building principal, the safety of our students and staff is my highest priority. If you have further questions about our site’s plan, please reach out to me directly.
I appreciate your ongoing support of our community. Please take care of yourselves, too, as this is a challenging time for everyone.
Principal, Lyndale Community School
