Welcome Hanna Haileyesus to the Lyndale Community as the new Assistant Principal!
We are pleased to announce/welcome Hanna Haileyeus as Lyndale's new Assistant Principal beginning next school year! Here is a letter from Hanna:
Hello Lyndale Community,
It is with great enthusiasm and excitement that I write this letter of introduction as the new Assistant Principal of Lyndale Elementary School. I am incredibly honored and excited to join the Lyndale community! I look forward to working in partnership with Principal Meghan, staff and families - to continue the work to ensure all of our students find academic success and gain a deeper understanding and love of themselves and others
I am deeply intrigued by how adults and children learn and make sense of the world around us. I enjoy researching and uncovering best practices of teaching and learning, and also learning how to cultivate a school culture and climate that finds joy in learning and discovery, celebrates humanity and interconnectedness, and promotes innovation.
I was able to do this work at Ella Baker (formerly Jefferson Community School K-8) for the past 2 years as the Magnet Teacher on Special Assignment and Curriculum Integration Specialist. My team and I worked to transition Ella Baker’s pedagogy, curriculum and school culture into a global studies and humanities magnet school. Prior to that, I had the honor of being a 4th grade teacher at Ella Baker. I started my journey at Minneapolis Public Schools as the School Success Program Assistant at Barton.
On a more personal note, my husband, Brandon, and I just recently got married this May! I have two step-daughters who attended Ella Baker this year, and one loving (and anxious) dog. I was born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and raised in Nairobi, Kenya. I came to the United States and landed in Bloomington in 4th grade. I attended Gustavus Adolphus College for my undergraduate degree in Political Science and the University of Minnesota for my teaching license, master’s degree and principal license. I have lived in Minneapolis for the last nine years. We love camping, going up north, traveling and eating lots of newly discovered food!
I am committed to working alongside Principal Meghan - as we continue the work you all have been doing, and provide our students and staff a variety of opportunities to succeed! As a learner myself, I seek feedback, and opportunities to grow from those around me. I am here because of the many mentors and colleagues I have had the privilege to work and collaborate with. I look forward to meeting all students, staff and families this coming school year!
