Meet Ms. Johnson
About Ms. Johnson
Hi! I’m Jessica Johnson. I use the pronouns she/her/hers. I am the Social Emotional Learning Teacher for Lyndale. I grew up in Northwest Arkansas and attended the University of Arkansas - Fayetteville for my Political Science Degree. I moved to the Twin Cities in 2004 when I got married. I decided to go back to school for my Elementary Education Degree and graduated from St. Catherine University in 2010. During my time at St. Kate’s I was lucky enough to write a grant to attend the Responsive Classroom Core Course. This was absolutely transformative in my teaching. Responsive Classroom is a belief system that social emotional skills should be taught and woven into all subject areas. There are also practical strategies that fall into the four domains of Responsive Classroom: positive communities, engaging academics, developmentally responsive, and effective management. In May of 2021, I became a Responsive Classroom Certified Teacher. I was then asked in Fall 2021 to become a Responsive Classroom Consulting Teacher. Which means I get to travel during the summers and teach other educators about RC!
I couple Responsive Classroom strategies with Anti-Bias/Anti-Racist Curriculum in order to make sure that all students are seen and heard. Here at Lyndale we are lucky enough to have the AMAZEWorks curriculum for all our students, which is a picture-book based Anti-Bias/Anti-Racist curriculum. I’ve linked the AMAZEWorks Parent Letter on the sidebar.
My husband and I have a son, Henry, and a loveable floof of a Golden Doodle puppy named Riley. When I’m not working at school, you might find me reading, playing with Henry and Riley, gardening, or traveling
