The special education teachers at Lyndale support students who qualify for special education, have a disability and are in need of specialized instruction. A comprehensive evaluation, conducted by a team from the public school, evaluates and identifies these students. For every student who needs special education services, the team develops a special document called an Individualized Education Program (IEP). The IEP outlines the unique needs of the student and the specialized goals and objectives that will help the student make educational progress. Parents are a critical partner in every phase of identifying a student for special education and in establishing the IEP.

Ultimately, continuous progress monitoring of individual goals and objectives will guide educational and curricular decisions.

School Psychological Services:

School psychologists provide direct and indirect support and interventions to students, consult with teachers, families, and other school-employed mental health professionals (i.e., school counselors, school social workers) to improve support strategies, work with school administrators to improve school-wide practices and policies, and collaborate with community providers to coordinate needed services.

All children and youth can face problems from time to time-related to learning; social relationships; making difficult decisions; or managing emotions such as feeling depressed, anxious, worried, or isolated. School psychologists collaborating with other support staff help students, families, educators, and members of the community understand and resolve both long-term, chronic problems and short-term issues that students may face.

The school psychologist and school psychology intern are at Lyndale two days a week.
