Welcome to 3rd Grade with Mr. Pete

My name is Pete Mattsson. I have teaching 3rd grade at Lyndale Community School since 2019. To work in education and a school is a privilege and honor that I do not take lightly. As a lifelong learner and parent, I can begin to appreciate how important it is to cultivate an environment of learning and respect in the classroom that welcomes anyone and everyone who steps through our doors.
From 2002-2006 I studied Psychology and Communication Studies at the University of Minnesota and earned my Bachelor of Arts degree. After that I experienced living and working in the Mountains of Colorado for a winter but was drawn back to the charm and beauty of Minnesota. From 2007 until 2014 I worked in the Edina Community Education program as a middle school leader. Since 2008 I have worked in the Minneapolis Public School District in varying positions (AVID tutor, Special Education Assistant, Autism Teacher). From 2013-2016, I attended Hamline University and received my Minnesota K-6 Elementary teaching license. I studied Montessori training at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls in from 2017-2018. I have come to realize that I love school and truly am a lifelong learner.
From March of 2008 until January 2016 I was blessed to be a part of the Lyndale community, working as a Special Education Assistant in the City Wide Autism program. In this position I had the opportunity to witness many amazing teachers which ultimately inspired me to obtain my teaching license.
From 2017-2019 I was a Montessori classroom teacher (1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade) at Seward Montessori school in Minneapolis.
I am proud father of an amazing, curious, silly, kind 5 year old daughter...who is also a Lyndale Eagle kindergartener! We love being active, camping, art, and rock hunting.
Calm and kind, grows your mind
Mr. Pete
