Update on Building Projects at Lyndale

Here's an update on several in-process building projects at Lyndale School.

Media Center
After many years of advocacy, the carpet in the Media Center is being replaced! This much needed renovation to the epicenter of our school community will take place in two phases:

  • Phase One (Mid-August) – The main floor of the Media Center will be torn out and replaced with the same patterned carpet squares that are currently in the Main Office.
  • Phase Two (Late October) – The “Pit” and staircase to the second floor will be replaced with customized carpeting over the MEA break. These pieces need to be cut and fashioned in order to fit the unique areas within our space.

We are very excited to see how these aesthetic updates will add to the environment and atmosphere of our learning space and look forward to its completion at the end of October.

Rubber Mulch Replacement (Playground)
The rubber tire chips on the playground are being removed and will be replaced using engineered wood fiber. The project will begin in early August and is scheduled to be complete prior to our first day back with students (August 27th). More information on this environmental initiative can be found on the Minneapolis Public Schools Rubber Mulch Replacement Project webpage.

Painting Updates
The majority of the interior of our building, as well as some portions of the exterior, have been repainted. Funds for this upgrade were made available through a grant that expired on June 30th, 2018. As a result, some classrooms and areas on the outside of our building were left incomplete. We are in the process of securing work orders to complete this work, however, the financial reality of the Minneapolis Public Schools may prevent this work from happening in the near future.
